Speaking of B&W films, a film that takes on MUCH more depth as you learn more about history (WWII) is "Casablanca". Surprisingly complex...
FilmBuzz
:
Kind of like the brilliant "Citizen Kane". In many ways it's not very accessible the first time you watch it...
FilmBuzz
:
Everyone can act, and those that act can direct, right? Natalie Portman's directorial debut, "Eve", to open Venice Film Festival.
FilmBuzz
:
TV news: Hawaii Five-O being relaunched on the CBS network, but no-one can replace Jack Lord in my mind. :-)
FilmBuzz
:

FilmBuzz

Weird casting rumor: Billy Bob Thorton will replace Robert Englund as star in remake of "Nightmare on Elm Street" ?

@hughdickson
Yes, "Rising Sun" was a Michael Crichton book (not his best) with big theme of Japanese/US business, and Connery made it work.
FilmBuzz

Hurray for diversity: Capacity Pics readying "Curve" female-led thriller, and has writer Kimberly Johnson working on another in same genre

@FilmBuzz
Ooohh Rising Sun, that was a cool film - with Sean Connery I seem to remember!? Parts were about ettiquette in Japanese business?

@a2armory
Btw, "conveying the feeling" would have worked better with Cube if they had decent dialog and good actors. :-)

@jodyreale
I loved that Snipes did "To Wong Fu" and stepped out of character, but didn't find the film particularly good...

:
@FilmBuzz
I hear that but sometimes it's about conveying a feeling rather than a specific point, if it's done well I can get into that
FilmBuzz
:
Today's discussion topic: what good films has Wesley Snipes been in? My list: Blade, Art of War, Murder at 1600, Rising Sun.
FilmBuzz
:
@a2armory
ended up like a horror version of "Bus Stop" or "Lifeboat": you're all stuck together facing tough odds. Now what? Unsatisfying.

@FilmBuzz
it was the acting in Cube that really killed it for me, very cool concept though
FilmBuzz
:
So I watched "Cube" last night. Very interesting premise, nice set piece for the actors involved, but extraordinarily weak, nihilistic film.
